Using the expression 4x + 3y + z = 8, what is the value of x?

(1) x = y = z
(2) z = y - 3y


Bunuel,

I think there is some typo in statement II. It does not match with the values of statement I. May be z=4-3y or something like that.

Statement 1) x = y = z

4x + 3x + x = 8

8x = 8

x = 1. SUFFICIENT

Statement 2) z = 4 - 3y

4x + 3y + 4 - 3y = 8

4x = 4

x = 1. SUFFICIENT

Stmt: 1) x = y = z

8x = 8

x = 1. SUFFICIENT

Stmt: 2) z = 4 - 3y

4x + 3y + 4 - 3y = 8

4x = 4
X=1

you can also solve by looking at statements
