I just started studying for the GMAT again using
Magoosh. I am currently enrolled in an MBA program and will be graduating by the end of the year hoping to get accepted into a PhD program. That's why I need to re-take my GMAT and I decided to take a different approach this time using some expert's help.
I really really like
Magoosh. The videos are super clear and easy to understand and Mike is awesome at explaining things.
However, I did run into my first problem now while watching the video: Operations with proportions.
The concept is clear, yes.
But I do not get the same answer for this problem: 96/64 = 54/6x
According to
Magoosh the answer is x = 6 but I am not getting the same answer and since there is no explanation of how this answer is obtained I really can't figure it out. I am sure it must a be a real simple thinking error on my part.
I did cancel each fraction first and ended up with > 3/2 = 9/x.
Then I canceled the numerator on each side of the proportion which is "legal" according to the video.
This leaves me with 1/2 = 3/x
Then I cross-multiplied = 2x = 3
End result: x = 3/2
The video says x = 6???
What did I do wrong here?
