Question

Hi All,

Last year i gave a second attempt after a 2 month rigorous preparation. Unfortunately I got 590 (Q49,V21, IR 8). Hence I cancelled the scores immediately. I was completely lost as I used to touch 31-37 in verbal mock tests of GMAT Prep(free exams) and Manhattan exams. Moving on, I am planning to give another attempt at GMAT by focusing more on the Verbal. I have been following this thread for the last two days and I wondered if I can request an ESR report for cancelled scores. So I have searched the FAQ's and purchased the activation code and applied to my cancelled test score.
The analysis of the verbal section confused me a lot. I got medium questions through all the four sets. Please look in to the attached pdf and share your analysis.
I got 86 % of the questions right in set 2 and set 3 , still I did not get medium -hard questions and through out the exam I did not get a hard question. Does GMAC allegedly give me questions with less difficulty?

Hello  chaitanya87  No. GMAC did not allegedly give you questions with less difficulty. If you see the first bar on the Verbal graph, you got 5/8= ~62% of the valued questions incorrect and that just set the pace for you. Just know that if you want tough questions on your test, try to get as many correct questions as you can in the first 10 questions.

chaitanya87 , I agree with  Keats  here. As you got 62% incorrect in the first part including some easy questions, it did not raise the difficulty much in the later parts. The first few questions are really important as that sets your level almost. So you need to ensure you are answering all easy and medium level questions correctly in the first part. You may take some more time as well in the first part for this.

Also, one more thing is your timing for CR is 1:21 minutes which is less than RC and SC even. Generally people take more time in CR than other sections. Your score is also poorest in CR. So it seems you need to spend more time for CR question and have some good strategy. That may help.

Keats , I got 5 in IR with 44% questions right. So, it seems for IR also the scoring is dependent on the difficulty level of the questions. So people can get different scores for answering same no of questions right.

Not really. You can get a 21 in verbal after getting all questions correct in the first part, if you answer almost all other questions incorrectly. But, yes, the first part is the most important part as it almost sets the difficulty level for the rest of the exam. If one fares poorly here especially for easy and medium difficulty questions, then s/he needs to answer almost all questions correctly after that to get a good score.

1) On what dates did you take your two Official GMATs?
2) What study materials did you use before each attempt?
3) What were your scores on each Official GMAT (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores)?

4) What is your goal score?
5) When are you planning to retake the GMAT?
6) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
