Hi everyone,
Recently, I've noticed posts both on this forum and on Reddit where a lot of test-takers are complaining that they did very well in their GMATPrep mock exams, but the actual exam itself was harder, sometimes much harder.
I'd love for some experts to weigh in (bb, @Bunuel) - can we consider this due to any (or a combination of) the following, or is it simply the case that GMATPrep is becoming outdated due to the increased number of test takers in the actual GMAT that is driving the type of hard questions seen on the test higher?
1) the fact that these folks are on the forums, they likely came across GMATPrep questions and were able to solve them when they wrote GMAT
2) test day anxiety/nerves
I only ask this because I want to know whether it is worth it for me to go and buy 6 tests from GMAC or continue using resources here/that I have purchased and only complete the two free mocks ( i have not touched either, planning to write them after I feel I am comfortable with my studying.)

I am no expert, but from what my experience, a few questions from test 1 and 2 were familiar in both quant and verbal because those questions are often used by tutors, have been around for years and illustrate the GMAT quite well.
And I think that many exercises have been built around those tests so even if not exactly the same values, the structures are familiar.
Those 2 elements I believe are what may push scores up.
Nevertheless, I found that test 3 and 4 were more different, less known and reflected the score I obtained.
I don't think that there are any better test prep than the one from GMAT. Other may be easier or harder but none has it tuned as the gmat IMO.

I agree. I took the GMAT prep exams 1-4. Almost all questions were not repeat questions from questions I answered here in GMAT club. I also took several quant CATs in GMAT Club. As a result, I am very confident with my quant skills. BUT on the actual exam itself, I found the quant questions to be more difficult. I found the GMAT quant to be more difficult than even the GMAT club CATs. For verbal section, I think they are almost the same. But CR was more difficult in the actual GMAT exam.
