Shrujal,

In the sentence you presented, THOSE refers to DOG'S BONES. It will be better to say-
The bones of dogs are weak, but THOSE of humans are strong

But I don't think this is an important concept for SC. Do you have any official question for which the official answer depends on this point?

Didn't come across any official question which depends on this point.

Hi all ,

I have a query regarding pronoun reference.

For example in a sentence like this :

Dog's bones are weak , but those of humans are strong .

Here , can 'those' refer to bones
Or it should refer to dog's bones

Logically it makes sense for those to refer to bones
But grammatical what does 'those' refer to - dog's bones or bones
?
Hi Shrujal, those would refer to bones only, since this is what makes logical sense.

To clarify:
From a strict grammar point of view, THOSE would refer to Dog's bones - and that does not make sense! The sentence will make sense if THOSE refers to Bones.
So the sentence should be written differently
