Hello Experts,
I’m preparing for my next GMAT attempt and would appreciate guidance on choosing the right sectional order, particularly because Data Insights has consistently been my lowest-scoring section.
My best single-sitting score is 615, while my GMAT superscore is 655. Quant is my strongest section and has been above the 90th percentile in my previous attempts. However, DI appears to be the main section preventing me from achieving a higher overall score in a single sitting.
In my previous two attempts, I followed this sectional order:
1. Quant
2. Data Insights
3. Verbal
I chose Quant first because it is my strongest section. However, in both attempts, performing strongly in Quant was followed by extremely difficult opening questions in DI. I got some of those initial questions wrong, and my highest DI score across the attempts was 76.
For example, in my most recent attempt, the first DI question was a Two-Part Analysis question. I spent approximately four minutes on it but still could not solve it correctly. This affected both my pacing and confidence at the beginning of the section.
For my next attempt, I am considering changing my sectional order to:
1. Data Insights
2. Quant
3. Verbal
My reasoning is that taking DI first may allow me to begin the section with relatively manageable questions and attempt my weakest section while I am mentally fresh.
However, I am unsure whether starting with my weakest section is the best overall strategy. Although DI may benefit from being attempted first, I also do not want the change in order to negatively affect my Quant or Verbal performance.
Considering my score profile and experiences in the previous two attempts, I would appreciate guidance on the following:
* Would DI–Quant–Verbal be a better sequence for maximizing both my DI score and my overall single-sitting score?
* Is it strategically better to attempt my weakest section first while I am mentally fresh, or should I continue starting with my strongest section?
My primary objective is not merely to improve my superscore. I want to achieve a higher overall score in a single sitting.
I would greatly appreciate suggestions from experts or test-takers who have faced a similar sectional-order decision.

Doing your weakest section first may work out well since that section will start off with easier questions if it's first.
So, you could give that section order a shot on practice tests and see how you do.
Also, you could consider doing more Data Insights prep so that you become stronger in the section and all of this becomes less of an issue.

That is an interesting take, doing the weaker section first. I might go for Quant, Verbal and DI. I feel weaker in Quant, a little more comfortable in Verbal and DI is hit and a miss.
