I agree with the above if you are technically employed then it may not be viewed as an employment gap. The main challenge here seems like it may be the recc letters, hopefully you still have past managers who can speak to positively to your candidacy.

Hello,
Hi shinigamikirin, I agree that technically this is different from severing your relationship with the company. You might want to address in an optional essay why you chose this leave option? Did you know you wanted to travel before B school? Was there something you wanted to learn before B school and this gave you that chance? It would be helpful if you were back working by the time you were interviewing. I do think it is a long enough gap that it might be worth addressing- I also agree with others that depending on how long you have been with the company, and depending on how your recommenders see this, it may or may not need to be addressed. If your recommender has lots to discuss about your work contributions, it may not be relevant to bring it up. But if you have just been at company a year or 2, then it will be more important to address. If you do, use the optional essay and highlight why you did this and what you learned from your partially paid sabbatical. Don't dwell on it but don't hide it.
I am currently on an incentivised leave of absence from my company ie I am paid half of my basic salary, but I am not on active employment status. Certain contractual requirements prevent me from joining another company. Its been around 5 months so far, and I expect to join back next month. Used this time to travel, and spend time with family. Will this count against my application? Any advice on how to portray this? For my company, this period still adds to my work-experience with the company.
