The term "professional designations" is little confusing. Not sure if it applies to masters degree. I think it refers to designations such as CFA/CPA but not to MA degree. You should contact admissions and check.

I just phoned the admissions office and they said 'With an undergraduate degree from UCL, you'll be fine'. Still, the response I got from the MBA team stated: "Thank you for your interest in Georgia Tech's MBA program! The equivalent of a US bachelor’s degree is a requirement for admission to Georgia Tech. A three-year bachelor’s degree does not meet that requirement. Neither professional designations nor work experience will count towards the fourth year of study." Very helpful... :shock:

As long as you confirmed with each school's Admissions team, then you should be good to go. It may be best to receive an email confirmation in case you need to provide any proof when you end up applying to that school.

Only few schools have this apparently unjustifiable criterion, as if an additional year of education has made or will make a difference to the applicant’s career. More so, when 3-year degree is common in commonwealth countries. What’s strange in this case is not even allowing a master’s degree to compensate for those who have undertaken a 3-year program (Narenn pointed this out). Most schools (and they’re very few) who require only a 4-year degree do have a compensatory master’s degree criterion.

When I was researching MBA programs in the UK, most of them required an honours degree (4 year) from what I recall, the same as most US and Canadian schools, no?

KPMBA This is the requirement in most of the business schools in the United States. One of my good friends who applied to McCombs ( University of Texas at Austin ) realized it later (after application submission) that his three year undergraduate degree in Psychology Honors from Delhi University won't be accepted. The business schools usually require a diploma or a master's degree to compensate for a three year undergraduate degree.

You will be fine because you have a Master's degree. You can anyway call the Admissions Team to confirm this.

Yup.. thanks to  Bologna Accord  because of which 3 year degrees from continental Europe are accepted by US BSchools.

If it helps to know this, you are in the same boat as a number of applicants from India, where only professional degrees such as medicine and engineering are four year programs. While the requirement of a four year undergraduate degree is unreasonable on many counts, you will be alright because you have a Master’s degree. We recommend that you write to the Admissions Committee of each of the schools you are looking to apply to, and let them know about your academic and professional background, as well as your fit with the program.
