Hi,

I am an Indian female targeting ISB and INSEAD.

Academic profile:
95% in 10th
92.6% in 12th
7.2 CGPA in Mechanical Engineering + Physics from Tier 1 school

Work Ex:
Have been working at a top Indian bank since July 2023 (i.e. >3 YoE at the time of application). Was recruited from the campus in the audit function for automation. In April 2025, made a move to product management internally and got promoted. Have been working as a PM ever since. Have been recognised with various performance awards thrice throughout my stint.

ECs:
2 PoRs in UG

I am aiming for a 705+ GMAT FE score.

What are my chances and how should I enhance my profile or tell my story more effectively?
Hi aditis15,

You’re already on a strong track—this is a profile that can be shaped well for both Indian School of Business and INSEAD.
What will really matter isn’t just hitting a 705+, but how clearly your story connects the dots—audit → automation → product—and what that says about your leadership and future direction.
Right now, your biggest opportunity is to:
  • Own your transitions (they’re actually a strength if positioned right)
  • Show impact, not just roles/promotions
  • Build a sharper “why MBA, why now” narrative that feels intentional, not generic
This is the kind of profile where small shifts in storytelling can change outcomes significantly.
If you want, we can help you shape that narrative so it lands the way top schools expect. Book a free appointment or speak with our consultants directly via email at [email protected] or via call at +91 7789769732.

You have a genuinely strong profile. Being an Indian female in a male-dominated field like Mechanical Engineering, combined with a Tier 1 college, top bank experience, an internal promotion to PM, and multiple performance awards — that's a compelling profile. Your demographic (Indian female) is also a positive differentiator at both ISB and INSEAD, where gender diversity is actively sought.

Your 7.2 CGPA is slightly low but offset well by your strong 10th/12th scores and clear upward career trajectory. A 705+ GMAT FE will be competitive and would also help you offset the CGPA.

One missing piece of information is your international experience/exposure as schools like INSEAD give significant weightage to international exposure.

The most important thing for your applications is narrative clarity. Your story needs to connect the dots between Mechanical Engineering to Audit & Automation to Product Management in a way that feels intentional, not accidental. Adcoms love a journey that's coherent.

Adding any mentorship, community initiative, or industry-relevant activity would strengthen the profile.

Both ISB and INSEAD can be realistic targets for you, provided you have strong essays. We would also suggest considering London Business School and HEC Paris as strong parallel options given your profile.

The audit-to-PM internal pivot at a top Indian bank is the most interesting thing on this profile, and you've actually buried it. That move plus a promotion within roughly a year is the spine of your story for both schools.

- For INSEAD, the bigger risk than your 3 YoE is the "Indian banking" pool. It's one of the most overrepresented applicant clusters and adcoms read it skeptically by default. Your differentiation isn't the bank, it's the mech engineer who pivoted into product via automation work. Lead with that identity; the bank is just the venue.

- INSEAD weights international exposure heavily because the program is only ten months, so there's no time to build a global mindset on campus. If you have zero cross-border work right now, even a short global rotation or stakeholder work with overseas teams before you apply will materially shift the read. Mine for it actively over the next few months.

- ISB and INSEAD reward very different "why MBA" stories. ISB wants a clear India-centric or India-plus career arc; INSEAD wants global mobility and a sharper post-MBA pivot. Targeting both is fine, but the essays cannot be a copy-paste.

- Honestly, 705+ FE is more than you need. A Focus score in the high 680s to mid 690s already clears both schools comfortably on percentile terms. If you're not naturally tracking that high in mocks, lock the score and pour those weeks into essay clarity. I've seen Indian female engineers admitted to INSEAD with scores in that band.

- The 7.2 CGPA is a minor flag, not a real problem, given your 10th/12th and trajectory. Don't burn an optional essay defending it unless there's a real story behind it. That space is better spent on the PM transition narrative.

Hope this helps. Feel free to come back with more questions as needed.

You already have some strong elements in your profile, particularly your academic performance, progression at work and the recognition you've received professionally. With 2+ years of experience, I’d focus less on adding more activities and more on making sure your application tells a clear, compelling story.

For INSEAD in particular, I’d pay close attention to how you connect your career progression, impact at work, leadership experiences and long-term goals into one coherent narrative. Your extracurriculars can strengthen this further when they demonstrate genuine involvement and impact.

Since INSEAD is one of your target programs, getting a perspective from someone who understands the school and its application process can be particularly valuable before you finalise your positioning. At Elevanted, our founder, who is an INSEAD alum, can help you assess your profile specifically in the context of your target schools and we offer a free profile evaluation to get you started.

If you're interested, you can reach out to Elevanted for the evaluation and get a clearer sense of where your profile stands and how you could position it more effectively.

All the best with your applications!
