Hi all,
I've seen some of your prompt and helpful profile reviews recently and would really appreciate your insights on my own candidacy.
Age: 24 (25 at matriculation, almost 26)
Sex: Male
Nationality: Irish
UG: Bachelor of Commerce degree with a concentration in marketing from the University College Dublin (top Irish UG business degree. Not so well known outside Ireland/Britain/EU).
3.7/4 GPA.
Additional Education: Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA).
GMAT: Taking in September for first time. Realistically aiming for 670 - 730
Work Experience:
-2 years and 9 months as a hedge fund accountant (with top administrator not actual fund).
-Led several internal initiatives to improve operational efficiency on our team. One effectively reducing Audit times and another identifying areas for 6 figure savings for our clients.
- Given a superior performance grade for innovation during my last appraisal.
- Independently performed net asset valuations on several funds worth almost $1BN.
- Point of contact for investor relations department, investment managers, banks and custodians.
Extracurricular Activities (leadership):
I had to work a number of jobs from a younger age to put myself through college etc. I won't give you any sob stories but my circumstances curtailed my involvement in community based pursuits. So in terms of leadership in a community context, my experience is not as comparable to most other applicants on this forum.
Community: I did however play soccer with a semi-successful local team for 15 years. Local sporting teams were a main source of charity and fund raising for our community. The local teams (including ours) were responsible for organising charitable events and fund raising for charities (both local and foreign). I was involved in similar activities with the local golf and tennis clubs.
College: Frequently the team leader for weekly case based assignments (we predominantly used the case based learning method). I also led a team of 4 through a successful real world mini-consulting project for an Irish health center chain.
Professional: Made significant contributions and delivered measurable results from the very beginning. I'm hoping the professional leadership i've worked on will help combat the average ECs in community/college.
Additional Info:
- Intermediate French and Fluent Irish. Not sure if being able to speak Irish will help much!

Post MBA
- Marketing and sales with a leading wealth management company or alternative investment fund.
Target Schools:
McCombs
Kellogg
Duke
Any general advice is very much appreciated. In particular, feedback concerning my chances at the schools above would be great.
Thanks a million for your time!
