Hi,
I need some advise on the following:
After one year in my first job, I left the job and studied for the entrance exams of MBA colleges. After 7 months I didnt make it to my desired college, so decided to go for the second job.
I am reporting this gap in my optional essay. But I have no idea of how the add comm. will take this. Any suggestion/strategy how to address this issue?? Frankly I am looking for ideas to make it look better.

Not knowing specifics makes it difficult to advise. Voluntary employment gaps accompanied by not achieving a desired result are generally best handled by identifying clear lessons learned and showing how you successfully applied those hard-won lessons in a subsequent, successful situation. While subsequent success is preferably specific, it is possible to approach it from a more philosophic or esoteric point of view if that's your only option.

Another suggestion to making your situation look better is to be careful about the tone of your essay. Don't apologize, don't whine. Take a factual, business-like approach to the events, acknowledges your responsibility for what happened, and tell the AdCom what you learned. Then tell them that your second job proved a blessing in disguise (I assume the details of your accomplishments on that second job are highlighted in your other essays).
