Hi Alex,
Wondering if you can give me your two cents.
Intention: FT MBA this fall
Age: 25 (26 by matriculation)
Undergrad: Big Ten, undergraduate b school degree, 3.3 GPA
GMAT: 740
Work Ex: 3.5 years advertising account management. I've worked on a variety of brands (Auto, CPG, Pharma, Software, Energy) and have good client (i.e. brand management / marketing dept.) exposure and escalating responsibility. In the past year, I've had the chance to lead an account team for one of our agency's smaller clients (producing TV commercials and a website redesign), which is rare for someone at my level / age. Recommendations from current and former bosses.
Outside Work: very involved in college, moderately but consistently involved since (SAT tutoring, rec sports).
Post-MBA: I've loved my experiences working directly with CPG clients, specifically at Unilever and Kraft, and would like to transition into a brand / product management role at a large CPG.
Schools: Kellogg, Duke Rd. 2 & Cornell Rd. 3 of 4
Questions: The apps are out for the schools above, so fingers crossed, but I'm wondering if it's pointless to test Rd. 3 at a Tuck or Ross. I understand only superstars survive that round. In the event that I get dinged at the three I've applied to, would it be better to hold off and apply at Tuck / Ross fresh in the fall? Overall, I'm looking for a general management experience at a school with strong marketing acumen, staying relatively close to the east coast or midwest.
Also, a gut check: I don't see too many advertising professionals on these boards (or with MBAs in general), how do you think Adcoms at top schools view that background?
Much appreciated.
