Dear Paul. Thank you for all the information you give out here. I've read through several pages of what you had to say in this forum and find it very informative! Now for my profile:
I am:
Male Korean raised in Japan.
28 years old. (turn 29 this year)
GMAT: 700 (Q:47 V:39)
Small US College: 2.9 GPA (double majored in marketing and communication)
Work Experience: 5 full years
Extra Curricular: English Sunday school teacher once a month. native fluency in korean and japanese (if this helps)
I plan to address my low GPA in the extra essay, saying I was working part-time and was awarded with recognition in school-wide business plan competition three years in a row.
What makes my profile peculiar is my non-focus in work experience. Here is the list:
1st job: Sales at a Japanese trading company in the West Coast, selling to Sushi bars (quit due to visa running out) 1 year
1.5 job: short 6 month stint opening and running an online mall selling Asian food products. Failed miserably.
2nd job: International real estate investment manager in Japan. Involved with failed IPO of USD 1B investment trust. (bankrupt) 1 year
3rd job: Boutique real estate investment manager in Japan. Asset Manager for properties in Korea, Japan, Vietnam. (bankrupt) 1 year
4th job: Online game company in the new mobile/social game department. Project manager for several projects targeting U.S., Korea, and Japan. 1 year and counting.
Reason for MBA: I changed industry to social/mobile gaming to cover stocks in this industry (Zynga, Playfish, NGMoco, RIM) in the future as an investment manager. I thought I needed an edge to break into stock investment. I am applying for MBA to punctuate this career change.
Target schools:
Columbia, NYU, Cornell, USC, UCLA, Stanford
I know some/all of these schools are very difficult for me, but please kindly advise.
1. Is the "reason for MBA" cohesive?
2. What are my chances for these top ranking school?
3. What is my biggest weakness?
4. Will 730 - 750 GMAT score help my chances significantly?
