Hi All,
I've been preparing to apply to Haas and Anderson and I have two questions. First, am I a viable candidate for either in Round 3?
- White, Male, 29
- GMAT 770 (Q50, V44), 3.3 in Computer Engineering from top 5 US-university
- 7 years work experience in non-profit sector; 3 years of program management/supervising a small number of direct reports
- Extracurriculars in the same vein as my work life
- Career Goal is to be the ED of a non-profit org
And two, what suggestions do you have specific to a Round 3 application - are there specific things that I'd want to mention/highlight in my essays or the optional essay?
I've heard that it's important to explain why you are applying in Round 3 as opposed to Round 2 but I'm not sure in what space to do that. For me, my interest in b-school is a recent phenomenon and so I haven't been preparing for years to apply. Is my background and career path different enough to merit consideration in the round 3 crapshoot?
Since I'll be 7 years out of school by this June, I'd prefer not to wait another year but would love to hear your thoughts.

If you're already knee deep in the applications (as R3 is due soon), then why stop now? You're really coming up close to the deadlines that you really shouldn't be mulling it over - it's really about execution.
And no, don't explain why you chose Round 3 because there's not a whole lot you can say about it. Even in your post, I don't really buy it, because you don't need a "couple of years of planning" to be able to apply in Round 1 or 2 -- and any explanation you give will only make an adcom infer that this b-school thing was purely an impulsive thing (because even if it was recent, you probably would've applied in Round 1 or 2 if it wasn't impulsive).
Not saying that every Round 3 applicant is impulsive, as every one has their own reasons for applying, but there really isn't a lot to explain.
Again, it seems like you're in the midst of prepping for the deadlines, so just get it done.
