WORK EXPERIENCE
Employer: Small engineering company (< 20 employees)
Post grad experience: 18 months
Internships: Other engineering companies (12 months + 2 months overseas/Korea)
I don't have any managerial experience, but I'm confident I can get a positive recommendation from my boss.
GMAT: 710 (Q50 V35 AWA6) [I took the GMAT twice]
COLLEGE INFO
Univ of Toronto (Canada), 2009
Major: Electrical Engineering
GPA: 70% (not sure how this translates to American 4.0 GPA)
No extenuating circumstances, I was just immature.
Undergrad Extracurricular: Led a campus club, some intramural teams
Extracurricular: Volunteer at church (ushering and preparing the room for services)
CERTIFICATIONS
None. Studying for CFA L1
TARGET PROGRAMS
Dream: HBS, Wharton
Other: Booth, Kellogg, Columbia, Ross, Stern, Tuck, Fuqua
GOALS
Post MBA goals: Use my technical background and go into consulting or banking, then start my own firm.
Do I have a chance with any of my targets? Is there anything I can do to improve my chances? (take courses at a local university, take the gmat a 3rd time, etc)
Any other comments you have would be greatly appreciated!

Statistically, I do not think you can get into HBS, Wharton or any of the "Other" schools with a mediocre GPA and no exceptional work impact. Your leadership in the campus clubs may counter that somewhat, but in my experience, the top programs are seeking exceptional impact at work that you haven't mentioned yet. To improve your chances, I do think it makes sense to retake the GMAT to boost the verbal score - you're a native English speaker, so I hope you should be able to do this without much pain. In parallel, I recommend building an alternate transcript of a couple of business courses to prove your academic ability and seriousness about this study. Finally, I would like to see exceptional leadership and impact in your company and in the community to be considered a good fit with the top programs you mentioned here. If these impacts already exist in your background, then at least that part is out of the way and you can focus on the GMAT/GPA issues only.
