Greetings,
I have a somewhat unique academic and carreer experience and am curious if there are any suggestions or advice anyone can offer as far as applying to B-schools.
I am currently 27 years old and am going to finish my Bachelor's Degree from DePaul University in Chicago, IL in Feb-March of 2012. I had previously dropped out of college in my early 20's when i was more of a knucklehead. At DePaul I am carrying a 4.0 GPA. Upon dropping out I worked for a large industrial construction materials company in their field service department, and I currently work for a local small business in chicago as a manager.
My main concerns are:
Will my previously poor academic track record from my past haunt me in the selection process, and, will my application be overlooked because I will not be in possession of my Bachelor's degree during the early rounds of applications?
Furthermore, will the fact that my work experience is technically not "post-graduate" be dismissed?
I had planned to apply for international business programs and plan to attend whatever schoosl will take me starting next fall (Oct 2012)

In short, yes, your academic history will be an issue, as will the fact that you haven't completed your bachelor's degree while you're applying for b-school. Your work experience won't be dismissed completely if the jobs you had normally require a college degree (i.e. your colleagues/fellow employees alongside you had to be college grads to get the job), but it will be discounted because it's not post-college experience.
At this point, I would suggest finishing up college first, and work for a few years -- by then, you may have an outside shot at a decently ranked b-school (full-time program), but it may make more sense by then to do a part-time program or even years down the road an executive program.
There are many roads and paths -- but once you've taken the unconventional path early on, you are probably best off to continue along an unconventional path, rather than trying to all of a sudden trying to force yourself to take the conventional path.
At this point, I would suggest finishing up college first, and work for a few years -- by then, you may have an outside shot at a decently ranked b-school (full-time program), but it may make more sense by then to do a part-time program or even years down the road an executive program.
