Hi,
I plan to apply to top tier MBA programs (Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Wharton) and would like to see what my chances are.
GMAT: 690
GRE: 1300
Age: 31
Educational bg: - I have a computer engineering undergrad degree with 3.85/4.0 GPA (class topper) and a double major in business administration with 3.87/4.0 GPA (ranked 2nd among 150) from one of the best private universities in one of the smallest European countries.
- I have a Masters degree in Info.Sys. Management from Carnegie Mellon University with highest distinction (3.95/4.0).
Work exp: - Worked for one year as a teaching assistant in the undergrad program that I have my comp.eng. degree from.
- Worked for 1.5 years with one of the big shots in Silicon Valley as an engineer.
- Went back home to serve in the army for 6 months as a commanding officer.
- Worked for one year as a software specialist back home.
Here are my questions:
1. I would be glad to know what my chances are for top tier schools, and if it is small, I would like to hear some realistic objectives that I can set as my target schools. And if it is the case whether my chances at top tier schools aren't that great, should I try to take the GMAT to improve my score (and what score should be my minimum target).
2. I am also curious about how the business schools would evaluate my work experience. I have 2.5 years of non-arguable professional work experience but I am not sure about the 1 year I spent as a teaching assistant and 6 months I spent in the army. I am sure that there are experts who can put down their words of wisdom for me in this issue. I ask this because if they consider my total work experience as 2.5 years, it would be a whole other story than having a total work experience of 4 years.
3. Is my age too old for these schools or for aiming an MBA, especially nowadays that top tier schools admit more and more younger applicants.
Thanks a lot in advance.
