My first post, here it goes...

1) Brief description of your full-time work experience.
--24 Year Old male
-- Previous work experience: During undergrad: 2 years; (30 hours a week) as a commodity analyst at a small MINING firm.
-- Current Work experience: Post-undergrad: 2 years; financial analyst at one of the most prestigious asset management firms in the country
2) Your GMAT.
-- 720
3) College info:
-- UC Santa Barbara, Political Science, 3.06 GPA (one F--retook the class and got an A), graduated in 2009
-- Low GPA due to the fact that my mother died my freshman year in college and my sister died my junior year in college.
-- With my mom out of the picture, I had to commute to school in order to take care of my younger siblings.
-- My mother was the bread winner so I also had to work to help pay my way through school.
4) Significant college and post-college extra-curricular activities or community service, especially leadership experience.
-- During undergrad: Student Body Executive Vice President,
-- Post undergrad: took the following courses at a community college/extension school:
-- Financial Accounting - A
-- Managerial Accounting - A
-- Micro Econ - A
-- Macro Econ - A
-- Precalculus - A
-- Calculus I - A
-- Calculus II - A
-- Pre-MBA, Descriptive Statistics - A

I am no consultant, but your profile looks gr8 to me ! Make sure you write about your experience being the bread-winner for your family during your undergrad. You have done very well in the courses you took post-UG to offset your low GPA, your GMAT is in the median range for most schools, and you are getting gr8 recos!
Overall your profile looks like a winner. Good luck.

First, let me say that I am so sorry for your losses. Your college years were obviously a very difficult time and I commend you for keeping it together.
Regarding readiness for the MBA: you are still young, so you may have difficulty demonstrating the type of leadership in the financial world that these top programs are looking for. Statistically, you've built yourself an excellent alternate transcript, which combined with the unique circumstances in your undergrad years means that your GPA will most likely not be an issue. Your GMAT is a fine score as well, which means that the key element for you is going to be your essays. Sharing examples of you leading deals, mindsets, and teams is going to be essential for your application to succeed.
