Hi Jennifer,

I'm currently trying to decide between applying to business schools next year or the year after. I would prefer to apply next year, however, and was wondering if you think 45 months of WE upon matriculation (age 27) is sufficient to not raise any sort of flags? I'm looking to completely switch industries so I don't feel an extra year would give me any more relevant experience however I would be able to take on further responsibility if I stuck around (although it would not be "game-changing"). Your advice is much appreciated!

Yes, 45 months can be enough. Sometimes 24 months is enough. The factor that matters is quality not quantity. If you're following someone else's orders and not taking any risks, then it doesn't matter if you stay there for 5 years or more, you aren't going to be able to demonstrate that you have the business insight and leadership ability to succeed in the MBA program and beyond. But if you've risen quickly through the ranks to guide seniors in the organization, then you should be able to prove that you're ready to contribute. Good luck!
