MBA Admit.com: Proudly, one of the most affordable top-quality MBA admissions consulting companies, with prices nearly 50% lower than our direct competitors.Hi All,
I have received many emails from candidates with finance backgrounds who are very concerned that their odds of admission to the top schools are greatly reduced, since top schools like Harvard shifted last year away from finance candidates toward technology and manufacturing candidates. While this reflects, in part, a shift in industry interest on the part of some of the top MBA programs, it also reflects the fact that the volume of highly qualified candidates coming from technology and manufacturing backgrounds simply can’t be ignored. For tech and manufacturing candidates, you remain aware of how competitive things are for you, particularly if you are male, from South Asia or East Asia, and will be considered a foreign national to the school to which you are applying. So, continue to strive hard to put together outstanding applications, because given the high quality of candidates with your broad profile, you likely still have the most difficult road to admission to top MBA programs.
For you finance folk, just take the reduced numbers of finance admits to some of the top business schools to mean that you should redouble your efforts to use your MBA admission essays to distinguish your work experience and also present very compelling long-term goals. Your long-term goal, in particular, might have a very strong impact on your admissions odds. If there are thousands of other candidates coming from your background, why should the school admit you? What will you be doing in the future that will be worth backing through their MBA? Try to use your response as a source of advantage for yourself in the admissions process.
Best wishes,
Shelly Watts
