Man,
I am really sorry to hear that. Mistakes and confusion can happen anywhere, but I know how much people's lives hang in the balance here. Its your future, so we do try our best to take this into consideration. I don't really know what to tell you, other than do the best you can in the meanwhile, communicate your lack of satisfaction yet once more. After all, in our industry reputation is VITAL, as is trust, and understandably you need this. When you do contact them, maybe let them know that you are concerned about not making the deadline, etc. ask them if they have any limitations, if they are sure they can help you get things on time. After all, there IS a person on the other end of the line.

And since you have already been "burned", cover yourself JIC.

Hey redsox,

We’re very sorry to hear about your experience. One thing that seems to be missing with your previous admissions consultant is “Transparency”. Beyond the fees that typically a consultant charges, it is about winning the confidence of the student and keeping them updated about the entire process.

Unfortunately that hasn’t happened in your case and as we understand you’re really short on time.

Have you tried talking to them again? Hope it works otherwise you can try out with other consultants :)

If you feel comfortable doing so I think it would be very helpful to reveal which company you are unhappy with! Maybe it would spur change within their organization...

I have four of my applications due this week and I have not been able to get a hold of my admissions consultant (who changed around). After spending over $6,000, I feel completely abandoned by my admissions consultant. I am also one of the non-traditional types applying to top 10 programs with average grades and gmat. I spent all this money, thinking I was going to get unlimited support, but I am more anxious than ever as the deadlines loom closer

I am already thinking about working with another firm for my consortium applications due on Nov 15 and Round 2. I am looking for another admissions consultant, who will

1)acknowledges receipt of my emails and lets me know when he or she will respond (it does not need to be right away, but alteast within 12-24 hours)
2) guide me through essay brainstorming
3) help me walk through structuring my drafts
4) Be available for questions

Going to a 2nd tier MBA program is not an option for me. With a 690GMAT and 3.5 GPA, loads of leadership experience at a non traditional firm and extremely strong extra curricular and recommendations, I do not think I need to settle for a lower ranked program. I need a consultant who will truly help me get though the process and need recommendations

If anyone else feels that their admission consultant abandoned them, please post so I know I am not alone.

NYredsox,

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. I know what you're going through because I went through something similar about 2 years ago when I was applying to business school. Fortunately, I managed to switch consultants quickly before losing a lot of money. Either way, I ended up getting into business school and not going! lol! However, I'm actually in the process of putting together a blog for MBA applicants looking to write better essays. I learned a lot through my consultant so I hope to share some of that advice with applicants. I remember how awful the process was so I'm hoping to reach back out. This process, as we all know, can drain your soul! Feel free to e-mail if you need any help. I'm always happy to lend a hand.

Hang in there and good luck!

Here's my two cents, but if you're not in investment banking or a big management consulting company, and I'm not in either field nor am I working for a huge mega government contractor, you're already pretty close to being a non-trad guy.

I'd also think that a non-consultant/financial analyst would get a little leeway on the GMAT too. There are likely way too many consultants and analysts who want to get into B school than there are spots for them, and a B School class could be made up completely of people in those companies if they really wanted to.
