Hi Alex,
First of all, thanks for your input on this forum - I've been through several threads and picked up some very good information. Could you please give me a profile evaluation?
Age: 29 (30 in a couple of months)
Nationality: Italian
GMAT: will be doing this next month but scoring consistently around the 720-730 range in practice exams
Education: Bachelors degree in Computing and Information Systems from a top 15 UK university (second upper, missed out on 1st class by half a percentage point unfortunately). I also have another bachelors degree in an unrelated field (medical field) but which I've never really used.. towards my 3rd/final year I had decided it wasn't something I would enjoy working with - still completed the degree however.
Work Experience:
- I started up and ran a previously closed down bar in Italy right after my 1st degree. I managed it for a year and a half, employing around 6 people - it would have around 200+ customers on weekend nights, very popular and successful. I then had to leave since I moved to the UK to do my 2nd degree.
- During my degree I did a 1 year internship at Microsoft, and a 4 month internship at Goldman Sachs - both IT roles. (not sure if these are considered in work experience totals?)
- Since graduating I have joined a small financial consulting company (~1.5 years) - started off as a BA and am now doing senior BA roles. Most projects are IT related projects in tier 1 banks (e.g. Deutsche Bank, Credit Suisse, Morgan Stanley, etc). I have not yet lead a project however in my role I do meet senior client personnel on my own and own important project deliverables. I think that in around 6 months - 1 year I will be able to take on my first project management role.
Extra Curriculars: no particular voluntary roles to brag about. I'm very much into sports and have run marathons as well as having played in local football (soccer) teams for years.
I would like to apply for tier 2 MBAs in the UK such as Oxford Said and Cambridge. I want to get an MBA so as to give me the opportunity to move into strategy consulting at an associate level. Do you think I have a shot? I know that LBS and INSEAD are out of my reach..
Any feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
