If it is still valid for the school you are applying to, and you obviously have a good score then why retake it? Just make sure you check the requirements carefully for each school. As in HBS says Jan 1, 2007 or later for Fall 2012 admission and Columbia wants the scores to be valid till the start date of program ( Aug 20, 2007 or later for Aug 2012 entry).

Good Luck!

It's a strong score and there's no need to try to improve on it (unless you've been scoring 780 on multiple practice tests and trying again would not take too much focus). Otherwise, focus on all the other aspects of your profile that will need to be just as strong: extracurriculars, leadership, etc.

Good luck,

Thanx a lot for the reply guys....... The dilemma in my mind was not the strength of the score...... I had heard someplace that the adcom frown upon scores that are not recent (read---> older than 3 years) and may ask to retake GMAT........ Cheers for alleviating some stress..... thanks again

As colorme1 pointed out this is a policy thing, meaning that you will just have to check on a school by school basis. For some it'll be all right, but some might require you to retake (and if it's too much of a bother, and you aren't too crazy about the school, you can just strike them off your list)
