I would like to have a feedback about my admission chances for the following MBA programs: LBS, Oxford, MIT, and INSEAD. I am 29, from Lebanon (MiddleEast).
Academically speaking, I have a B.Eng in Computer and Communications from the American Uni. of Beirut, one of the most prestigious universities in the middleEast. My average is 74/100, slightly lower than 3.0 on the American scale. In addition, I spent one-year, Sophomore class, at the Lebanese American University, in which I got a cumulative GPA of 3.6.
And, I have a M.Sc in Communications Engineering from the Technical Uni of Munich in Germany with an average of 2.5/5.0, which is equivalent to a good honours on the German Scale.
As per my professional experience, I have around 8 years of International experience between the Gulf, and Europe; in addition, I have demonstrated managerial capacity as early as I was 24 years old.
I have an outstanding record of extra-curricular activities, leadership and community involvement.
As per the GMAT, I took it for the 1st time on December 6th, 2004. And, my score was:
Quant: 47 (81%)
Verbal: 31 (62%)
Overall: 640 (80%).. Actually, I didn't have time to properly prepare for GMAT.
I am aiming to meet January deadlines, so your prompt response will be of a high benefit.

Overall, your background sound pretty unique, especially given your international experience and communty involvement. Often we hear from students who have great GMAT scores but unremarkable backgrounds, but your profile sort of sounds like the opposite of that.
It's not impossible to get into those schools with a 640, but it will be tough. What concerns me more is that you mention that you didn't have a lot of time to prepare for the GMAT. At the risk of sounding like I'm preaching, you probably should take the exam more seriously, and consider re-taking it only after you've had time to prepare enough that you believe your score will improve. What I recommend against is taking it again right now, without any new preparation, and just hoping for a better score. Since you didn't study very much, you probably can improve your score by at least 30-40 points if you just devote some significant time to the exam over the next few weeks.
If you're trying to also write your essays, though, then it will be tough. The risk is that adcomms will see your GMAT score and your essays and recognize that you rushed through your application. If they think that, then your odds of success will be small.
I hate to sound so negative! But I recommend that you slow down and try to improve your GMAT. The GMAT isn't the most important thing, and you *can* get in with a 640, but I worry that you're just rushing through your app, and the overall product may suffer.

Thank you for your reply. It is true that I can improve my GMAT score by that range, but the fact is that I need to meet the 2nd round atleast regarding LBS and OXFORD. In this context, I would like to ask whether my admission chances for OXFORD and LBS are better than those of Insead and MIT, and what specific strategies I should follow to gain such places.
