Profile evaluation please

Question

Background: Female, international (eastern Europe), 27yo.

1) Full-time work experience: Current: 2 years in a top 3 economic consulting company (<500 people), working for the energy sector. Promoted after 11 months on the job. Previous: 2 years in a large consulting company (4000+ people), working on energy efficiency programs. Promoted after 1.5 years on the job.
2) GMAT: 730 (Q45 V45)
3) College info: B.A. from a small, liberal arts women's college, top 20. GPA: 3.35. Economics, 2008; A.A. and A.S. from a small private women's college, GPA 3.8. Two graduate classes in a top 10 economics graduate program (grades A and A-). My BA GPA did not include my grades from my first two years of schooling.
4) Extracurricular: college: board member of investment club, senior class board. Post-graduation: theater group; one major charity fundraising experience; running.
5) Important certifications: n/a
6) Your target programs ??
7) Your post-MBA goal: work in the renewable energy sector, either in product development or as a consultant.

Did you accurately record the Q/V scores on your GMAT? The quant looks a little low. What was the percentile?

Yes, it seemed a bit odd to me as well. The Q percentile is 68, the V percentile is 99.

Your quant score is on the low side given your work and your GPA is also a tad low for the top 10 programs. On the other hand there is lots of evidence you can do the math. Your verbal score is excellent.

I see three approaches for you:

1) Apply to range of schools focusing on those programs where you will be highly competitive to maximize the chances that you are accepted this year and can start your MBA studies in Fall 2013.
2) Apply only to the top programs with your current GMAT in the hope that you will be accepted based on your excellent work experience, European background, and A's in grad course work. If this doesn't work, then next year reapply to a broader range of schools to increase the likelihood of acceptance then. You may also consider a GMAT retake then.
3) Apply only to top programs R1 and apply to lower ranked programs round 2 if you are not accepted round 1.

These are simply different approaches to the application process, and it's your personal decision as to which is better for you.
