Dear friends!
I urgently need your advice. I have a 3 year experience as marketing manager in a tobacco company. I want to get into MBA (full time). I've heard that my experience in a controversial industry can harm my chances of admission.
Please advice me if its true and what should I do with that?

First step, moving this into a better place where you can get help faster.
Second, you may want to specify a bit more as to which schools you are looking to apply to.
Third, I think you may bring a very interesting perspective (and thus be more valuable) compared to an average Accenture-type applicant.
Finally, it is all about your accomplishments (remember Dr Von Braun?). Sorry for such a terrible comparison but just trying to put your concerns to rest.

I would not be overly concerned about how admissions interprets your pre-mba work experience. A few years ago, we advised a candidate who had five felony counts (including breaking and entering) and when put in proper perspective on his application, he had great success (albeit a bit spotty). While he was admitted to Wharton, UCLA, and Kellogg, he was rejected from NYU, USC and Haas. I also worked with a candidate who worked in the gaming industry and he also experienced spotty acceptance - admitted to Yale, Ross, Kellogg and Duke and rejected from Darden, Georgetown and Cornell.
The take-away from this posting is that you need to cast your net a bit wider than you normally would -- but my bet is that with a well prepared application you will be well received and have many options from which to choose from.
