1) I'm currently working as a Financial Advisor for one of UBS/ML/MSSB/WF. I also act as a team lead, in that I coordinate a team of advisors who to drive attendance to a client seminar and then present the seminar for them. I will have been a financial advisor for 40 months at matriculation.
Demographics: White male who will be 27 at matriculation.
2) GMAT: 710 (44v/44q)
3) Undergrad: Good State school, class of 2010 (took 5 years to graduate, but started working full time before I graduted). BBA in Finance with a 3.1 GPA
4) Most of my extracuricular experience has been with networking groups too numerous to list here, but I have been volunteering consistently in the community too (taught basics of financial planning to highschool seniors, did runs for charity, etc..)
5) I have Series 7/66 and the CRPC designation. I'm planning on taking CFA lvls 1 and (hopefully) 2 before matriculation though. Goal is that if I can't get into a good MBA program for 2014 matriculation due to low GPA then I could prove that I've turned my work ethic around with a CFA designation the following year if I study hard and am one of the lucky few who passes all levels.
6) Berkeley and stanford are my long shots.. Otherwise, I'm really looking at Duke, UCLA, and Emory, with Georgia Tech and USC as backups. I'd be open to any school that isn't in New York, but I'd prefer to either be in the South or the West.
7) Berkeley and Duke R1 for matriculation 2014, UCLA, Emory, GT, and USC all R2.
8) Either a portfolio manager or corporate finance (internal). Either way, I want to leverage information technology more than in my current position and in addition to finance I plan to focus on database management and perhaps programming. In an ideal world, I'd love to be a large company's CFO, but given my background and current work experience I would be extremely happy being a portfolio manager as well... I know that I wouldn't necessarily need an MBA for the second, but it would certainly help, especially because of some of the overlap between MBA w/ Finance classes and CFA.

Thanks for your post.
I am pessimistic about Stanford and Berkeley. I am concerned about your GPA and quant score will be too hard to swallow so I agree that these are big stretches. You are more competitive at Duke and UCLA, but Emory, Georgia tech, and USC are not safeties; they are schools where you are competitive. Have you considered UT Austin or Cornell? (I know it's in the Northeast.)

R1: Duke, UChicago, UCLA
R2: Emory, UNC, Georgia Tech
