And the question still remains!!...looks like choosing the right school is far tougher then preparing and taking GMAT

I am still searching for the right schools to apply to for an MBA program in IT and related fields...my profile
GMAT - Expecting something like 700 +
Work ex - will be 6.0 yrs in IT field by the time i apply
International student
Undergrad - From a top 10 college in my country
GPA - Not good, not bad...average
Extra curriculars - good..active in sports, leadership,
Community service - not much
am looking for some "realistic" schools to apply for...the catch is that though i have some money saved on me, it will not be enough to cover my studies and hence i will have go for loans, schols, beg, borrow, steal...
Can you please help me deciding the schools...the ones which have strong IT/Consulting related programs AND offer some financial alternatives AND good reputation AND fit my profile..that should narrow down the choices i guess
Some schools that i have thought of (in the order of preference, ranking)
MIT, Univ. of Chicago, Anderson, Haas, McCombs, Insead
any help will be appreciated....

It sounds like you have selected a good set of schools. I would consider including a somewhat wider range of schools in your portfolio as this is likely to increase your access to merit aid.
For instance, I would consider adding some transelites such as Texas (strong IT placement), Carnegie Mellon, or Emory. I would also consider adding a Near Elite or NEF school such as Maryland or Arizona. Among the Gen Reputation elites, have you looked closely at Michigan?

As Hjort suggests, you should add CMU Tepper to your list. You already have UT on there (McCombs). I agree with him that you have a good list based on your brief description of priorities and your stats.
You may want to add Darden to your list. It is an excellent general management program and feeder school for consulting. It also has fairly generous financial aid programs, particularly for int'l students. Michigan is also a possible option although I sense that it is getting more selective. IN addition, if your stats are somewhat above average for a given school, you are more likely to receive financial aid. Consider UNC, Maryland, Arizona Eller, and Minnesota Carlson. The latter three in particular are strong in IT, but I am not sure they will open the consulting doors that you want. Check them out.
