Hi dee97177 - thanks for reaching out for input on the situation, and bummer about the GMAT score! Or actually,
not-bummer ... that score still qualifies you for some good master's programs. When you look at how hard that test is and the average score from all test-takers - around 550 - then you actually did quite well!! But we understand that you're disappointed, particularly when you did better in the practice exams.
While you're coming from a crowded applicant pool as the "Indian engineer", the fact that you're female does help. And, you did well in college. These points matter. And, you did quite well on the quant side, which is often considered the more important part in terms of showing how you'll handle the bschool curriculum. You're also showing to be flexible, by asking about an above-average school - you're not trying to get into the best of the best, you just want to go to a good one.
So all of that gives us hope!!!
There are a LOT of U.S. and European schools that could be open to you with this score.
What you need to do is identify the career goals and start with that. That's a good way to begin the process of selecting schools. If you already know that you want to go into finance (per your stated interest in the Financial Engineering master's) then that's a good start - though it also depends on where you want to work and literally what type of job. If you want to become a quant on Wall Street... that's pretty competitive, but there's also huge demand in that sector.
So as a next step, why don't you share with us what your ideas are for the career path you're headed to, and also name any other schools you've been considering, and we can look at possible targets.
