Hi, I was hoping to have my profile evaluated as I started researching schools.
1) I have worked for Raytheon (defense contractor) since July 2011. I was part of the Finance Leadership Development Program in which I rotated through different financial positions within the company, including a one year position on Raytheon' Corporate Strategy team
2) 700 (Q46, V 40), IR 6, AWA 6
3) Texas A&M University (graduated in May 2011), 3.5 GPA in Finance w/ minor in Economics
4) In college I was the President and coach of the Texas A&M Club water polo team for 2 years (member for all 4), Treasurer of a Leadership and Service Organization (member for all 4). Post college I have been a member of the Dallas Junior Chamber of Commerce participating in volunteering events
5) No certifications
6) Wharton, Columbia, NYU, Northwestern, Duke, Virginia, Texas or anything else I might not be thinking of that fits my profile
7) I plan to apply in R1 for the Fall 2015 class
8) I want to work in strategy consulting eventually focusing on the energy industry
9) I am a 25 year-old white male

You appear to be a credible and qualified candidate for the schools you mention, with some nuances. They range from reasonable reaches (Wharton, Columbia, NYU) to on-pars and close to on-pars (Darden, Duke, Texas). Your rotation experience and specialization in the defense sector differentiate you in both experience and goals components. The weakest component is the GMAT – for your demographic and industry, it’s OK, it does what it has to do in making you qualified, but no more. I’d consider this a drawback for schools, like Columbia, that tend to emphasize a high GMAT – i.e., it would make Columbia a higher reach, but in my view it would still be a reasonable reach.
The [url]key to successful applications[/url=https://reports.accepted.com/maximize_your_mba_applications] in your case would be to vividly portray your work experience and its connection to your goals. Make your organization and industry “come alive” through your essays and other components if/as possible.
Another program to consider would be MIT Sloan. It obviously would be a reasonable reach. And one more, closer to on-par, would be Cornell’s Johnson. I believe both of these would be interesting programs vis-à-vis your background and goals.

Thanks you so much for you response! I think I will take the GMAT another time to see if I can raise my score 20 or 30 points so that I will be better in line with the higher program
