Hi All,
I am an IT professional from India and I would like to get some advice on building my profile.
About me: Male/23/Indian/IT
Have a family business in manufacturing domain since 20 years.
GMAT: not given yet
Education:
1. B.E. in Information Technology from Mumbai University -> GPA : 3.8 (as per WES)
2. HSC from Mumbai board -> 88.66%
3. SSC from Mumbai board -> 90.13%
Work Experience:
37 months (at the time of applying)
Short-term goal:
Being passionate about my field, developing software is something that I have always wanted to do. Also, being from family with business background, starting up my own firm seemed more relevant. Following this dream, I had already conceptualized an idea for a product that essentially targets the small and mid-sized manufacturing industries and also built it simultaneously over last year or so. My short-term goal is to successfully setup my own firm and launch the product into the market.
Long-term goal:
To grow my company to develop software products specifically for medical/healthcare, non-banking financial sectors and robotics sectors as I have ideas for those domains as well. Also, I need to merger my family’s business in manufacturing domain with my own company for efficient management and create a group of companies offering services and product in different domains.
Achievements:
Awarded certificate for Best performance in my current company
Scored “outstanding” rating during the employee appraisal cycle
Won first prize during a national level project competition for my final year engineering project
Certifications: None
Extra-Curricular Activities:
Associated with an NGO (helping poor and under-privileged kids pursue education) for almost 6 months now.
Class and branch representative for IT Department in college for 4 years
IBM Academic Initiative Ambassador for college
Active member of the blood donation camp of college for 4 years
Member of the college cricket team for 4 years
Captain of Jr. College cricket team for 2 years
Captain of the high school cricket team for 2 years
Played flute and drums in high school orchestra for 5 years
Played flute for 2 years in Jr. College
Winner of multiple awards for debate and extempore competitions in school and Jr. College competitions
I am looking for the below colleges:
HBS, Wharton, Stanford, Kellogg, MIT, NYU Stern, Yale, Booth
Queries:
What are the things lacking in my profile? How can I build on them as I have an year to apply?
What kind of score I need to get to strengthen my chances for above colleges keeping my profile in mind?
How should I cohesively justify present my experience so that it could be most effective?

You will have 3 years of work experience at the time of applying. However, you will be competing with candidates having 4-6 years of work experience. So in order to strengthen your profile, you may want to wait for one more year to be able to accomplish more at work. Also, since you come from family business background and your long term goals are related to your family business, you will need to highlight your involvement and understanding of family business .
What kind of score I need to get to strengthen my chances for above colleges keeping my profile in mind?
To be competitive for your target schools, you should aim for 720+ or more GMAT score.
How should I cohesively justify present my experience so that it could be most effective?
Through your career progression, greatest hits at work (accomplishments, leadership stories ) and your understanding/involvement of various departments of family business ( finance, customers service , sales etc ) you will need to demonstrate your strong candidacy in your essays .

Hi,
Your profile is good. However there are a lot of thing that needs to considered while applying to a B-School. Try and understand if the B-School is fit for your profile and vice- versa. You will have to analyze your chances before applying. Shortlisting of right B-Schools are very important. If you are still going with the colleges of your choice alone, try getting at least 760+ GMAT to maximize your chances.
