Hi, I'm hoping for some help with where and when to apply.
Demographics: 32 year old native american male.
GPA: 2.6, but 3.6 over the last 3 years (60 units) since returning to school part-time. My degree will be in psychology from BYU (started out in engineering). I don't have any excuses for the GPA my first two years of school (1.6), but I started a family, left school for three years to take a full time job and turned things around.
GMAT: 750 (q51, v42)
WE: CSR and Sales at an auto insurance company for the last eight years with multiple promotions. I currently lead an 8 person Spanish speaking sales team.
Four startup companies over the past 5 years and one has had some moderate success.
EC: I volunteer at First Tee of Phoenix helping minority and low income kids with tutoring and golf. I also mentor Native American startup companies and help with some auditing with my tribal government.
I will graduate the end of August and I'd like to know what you think about applying to top schools. I'm hoping I'm a good candidate for the top consortium schools like Haas, Anderson, Tuck, Stern, Johnson, Yale, Darden and Michigan and maybe taking a flyer on Wharton and maybe Fuqua.
Goals: Short Term - Marketing/General Management. Long term - Entrepreneur.
Do you think I'm aiming too high with the low GPA and so-so WE?
Should I lower my sites to the second tier Consortium schools?
And how long do I need to wait after graduating to apply? Does my experience working full time for the past 8 years count or do I need to tough it out a couple more years at a new job?
Thanks for your help.
