Hello Critical Square,
Below is the description of my profile. I need your evaluation and recommendations over the schools I need to look for.
My profile:
27 Yrs Indian Male.
B.Tech from ordinary private engineering college affiliated to an Central University in India.
GPA - 8.3 (which is very good)
GMAT: 735.
MBA : Want to apply for Fall' 2015
Work Summary:
1. 7 Years of IT experience as an project Architect of which 4+ years in US.
2. Extraordinary accomplishments in delivering projects at really young age and great experience in leading multiple teams.
3. Great recommendation letters from CIO of City of Dallas and Vice president of Accenture (which is leading IT firm)
4. Experience in recruiting consultants and building teams.
5. Certifications in IT from highly reputed groups and few paper presentations.
Extra Curricular
Worked as Secretary for District Rotary club when I was in College in India.
My target schools
1. Columbia School of Business
2. Booth, Chicago
3. Berkeley
4. Kellogg
5. MIT
6.Stern
I am looking for an MBA in either IT or Finance. I imagine I have great work experience and good GPA and GMAT score.
But my concern is about not having my Under Grad degree from top Indian colleges and also very few extra curricular.
I need your evaluation to find out if my Target schools are in my reach.

Hi there,
Thanks for your post! First off, pretty sure the GMAT score is a typo so I'm going to assume a 730. Secondly, I think you're overestimating parts of your profile. You do have a strong GMAT and interesting work experience. If I read between the lines of what you've written, you've been in leadership roles for some important projects and been involved within the organization. You're probably a top performer based on that and that's important. Your international work experience is a definite plus! But you're a bit on the older side at, what, 29? 30? Also, your lack of involvement (you might have stuff within your firm which could count here) is a pretty serious yellow flag. All the top schools look for things like that to tell apart candidates who come from overrepresented pools. You're batting 3 for 3 on that front. Indian. IT. Male. Also, for the top 5, not coming from a Tier I or II institution also cramps your style a bit.
That all said, the schools you've listed are all stretch programs. Programs between 10 - 20 are more realistic stretch / aligned programs for you. If you want to apply to the top 10, go ahead and apply to 1 or 2 but don't put all your eggs into that basket. You're not diversifying and that introduces a lot of risk. You haven't really mentioned what you want to do post MBA other than to say you want to specialize in IT or Finance. That's pretty much inconsequential when you're looking at the top programs so don't worry too much about concentrations. Just go for brand.
Definitely not trying to rain on your parade - do apply to some top ranked programs but don't apply to ONLY the top 10.
