I scored a 630 on my first and only attempt (Verbal 34, Quant 42)
Graduated Auburn University spring of 2012 with a 3.39
Work experience-6 months with Hyundai as a salesman
Jan 2013- present working in South Korea as an Assistant professor teaching English.
I am aware that my work experience is lacking and my score is not top 50 material.
At the moment, I have applied to Auburn University's 17 month eMBA program. I was told by admissions that a 620 is considered competitive.
My first question is how much greater would my benefit be to retake and shoot for a higher ranked school? I do like Auburn, as I am familiar with it and am fairly sure I would be accepted. I also like my chances of an assitantship seeing as how my experience is in the classroom. I just am unsure on the difference in value of various schools MBA for someone like myself.
Secondly, would a higher score overcome my limited and not exactly professional work experience if I were applying for top 50 schools? When I talk to friends who have consistent work experience at a well known company, I feel I am at a significant disadvantage. I am not sure how valuable 'international experience' is.

Hi there,
Going back to your undergrad school may just be the easy way out. You already realize admissions is not going to be a walk out in a dense rainforest.
But the choice really depends upon you - if you think you should aim higher, then by every mean you should!
I would say working a couple of years will speak to the lack of work experience that you currently have - the average work experience at most b-schools ranges between 4 and 5 years. The extra time on hand will give you a chance to improve your GMAT score, as well as to spruce up your professional profile. While working as an assistant professor will not put you at a disadvantage, yet it will speak louder for you if you are able to make a larger impact on the student community or on the institution where you are teaching. Fitting in can be an issue with an international, but if you can overcome any cultural challenges to change things for better then you will have created good content for your applications.

I realize my situation with lower work experience and the fact that I intend to completely change industries hurts me now. So, in your opinion, do you think something like a post-MBA rotational program/leadership training program would suit me well? (Assuming I do not wait for more job experience.)
While I don't have the experience, I do have an interesting story that clearly shows the ability to move around. Something, I assume, companies hiring for rotational programs would like. To this end, any information on companies with rotational programs, what they look for, what schools they recruit from, how they differ from positions requiring more job experience, etc. would be helpful.
I won't go into my entire story, but I am fairly set on trying to begin my MBA next year. I feel if I do not, I will end up with too many roots overseas and never return.
