Nationality: Chinese American (came to States when I was 13)
Age: 31
Gender: Male
GPA: 3.60
Undergrad major: Business Admin with MIS concentration
School: University of Texas at Dallas
GMAT: 650 (Q49 V30)
Work experience (11 years combined, see below; experience in energy generation, logistics, IT, and medical fields)
IT Consultant - (10/2007 - present): Works for one of the largest IT consultant firm (Capgemini). Multiple projects with various clients, covering mainly utilities and energy sector. Promoted twice and about to get my 3rd promotion. Currently the on-going project I'm in charge of the technical side of the the mobile solution for the current business client. Good client recognition/feedback.
U.S Army (05/2003 - present): 9 years enlisted and 2 years officer. 5 promotions. 2 years active duty, rest are in reserve. 9 years enlisted worked in Quartermaster and logistics and 2 years as officer works in medical & IT field. Combat veteran, 1 deployment to Iraq in 2005. Served in every leadership role from company level: team leader, squad leader, platoon sergeant, platoon leader. Before received my commission I was an Operations Sergeant at a Sustainment Brigade (3000+ Soldiers) headquarter. Currently I'm a first lieutenant holding the position of OIC (officer in charge) of the S6 staff section (communication) of a Medical Battalion.
Community Service-
1. Director at Dallas-Fort Worth Chinese Alliance (DFWAA). member of the steering committee that are planning on the activities such as protest demonstration and community lecture). DFWCA is an volunteer based, non-profit nature rooted in the DFW area Chinese organizations, with goal to encourage and support Chinese through active participation (voting and other events) in the community region, Texas, and even national affairs and gradually move towards the long-term goal of safeguarding the rights and interests of Chinese equality.
2: North Texas Food Bank
Entry date: Fall 2015 Full time MBA
Post MBA career: My goal is to combine my experience from military and civilian side and to use the works in Management consulting / Healthcare IT consultant field while continue serve in Army Reserve until retirement.
Target schools: UT Austin. And possibly some the top 10 schools? I know my weakness are my GMAT score and the age. But due to the age constrain I probably will not be able to wait for another year and retake the GMAT. What kind of school do you think I should be aiming for with my overall portfolio? Any suggestions/recommendation are greatly appreciated!

Hey there,
Thanks so much for your post! You have a really strong profile. Yes, you're on the older side and yes, your GMAT is a bit rough around the edges. But you have a good undergrad GPA from a decent school, consulting experience and client exposure through capgemini, and then active duty military experience including a deployment and strong career growth. You're also involved OUTSIDE of the reserves which is really just a bonus. Because if you're already a reservist, no one could honestly expect you to do more. But you do and it's cultural focused so that's a cherry on top.
From a goals perspective, going into management consulting is perfectly fine and definitely doable (they also love vets) but the Healthcare component is strange. Nothing really mentioned above gives me the indication you're involved in that field in order to demonstrate interest. That isn't to say you can't say it but perhaps go more functional in your story than industry.
School wise, UT Austin makes a lot of sense. And, given how Texas + the GI Bill works for veterans, most of that would be paid for! Which is really great! As for top 10 - look, pick 1 or 2 and apply. You only do this once and the WORST that can happen is they say no. Which isn't that bad, is it? And maybe they'll say yes! If your goal is consulting, it doesn't matter what school you choose from that perspective. So pick schools that you would enjoy. For example, if you hate small towns, don't pick Tuck. Stern will do just fine as well. But you should diversify a bit too. Look in the 20 - 25 range for a couple of more aligned programs such as Kelley or Georgetown. Those will give you some good consulting opps too!

I have decided to retake the GMAT. Unlike my age, the GMAT score is something that I still have a control of so I decided to give it 1 more shot.
