I would like to apply for MBA this year. I wanted to share my profile and request for a realistic evaluation. Below are my stats
MPhil in Cambridge-Economics-2011-12
BSc in Economics-2006-10-Lahore University of Management Sciences, 3.96 GPA
Diploma in Networking 2014 Swedish Institute
2 years work experience in a think-tank in Pakistan as Research Associate/Consultant-Responsible for conducting research, advocacy work, literature review within cluster research area of education, collecting and analyzing data from both primary and secondary sources, conducting field-work and interviews of academics, policy-makers and other stakeholders, liaising with key stakeholders in the education sector, writing policy briefs and papers and analyzing data using STATA and Excel, arranging workshops and seminars. Contributions to blogs and organization's social media.
Managed two projects on education: Education Service Delivery Feedback and Teacher recruitment, retention and deployment and presented the findings of the projects at several conferences and workshops.
Social Work and Social Development Fellow-2014-15
Young Connector of the Future 2014-15
I am afraid my application is not that strong yet. Please give it to me straight. And guide me in how to strengthen my application if I want to get admission in the top 10 business schools. My main aim is to continue working in not for profit but I want to do MBA such that I can work on operation side of not-for-profit.

Thanks for your message. I enjoyed reading your profile and reviewed it similar to other candidates' profiles when I worked on a top 5 program's admissions committee.
Your GMAT score is a solid score and falls within the competitive range for some of the top 10 schools based on our experience last year. Your GPA will further strengthen your profile given that it is almost a perfect 4.0/4.0. I congratulate you on this, as it is not an easy task to achieve this GPA during one of the most challenging times in any student's life - in the midst of the transition from a teenager to a young adult. Having worked with many candidates over the past 6 years, this is the number one challenge I observe. However, your personal discipline managed it beautifully.
The only area I will ask that you strengthen is the years of work experience. I will encourage you to apply next year to the top 10 programs. My only reason for requesting you to wait 1 more year is that you currently have approximately 2 years of work experience. Ideally, it would be great to wait until you have 4+ years of total work experience. At the end of the day, the quality of work experience is more important than the quantity of years. Candidates with 3 years of work experience are accepted but schools prefer 4+ years. Programs tend to be fair and understanding but you will have to ensure that you communicate your personal and professional background effectively.

The more work experience you hold, the more likely you are to contribute to classroom discussions and be a valuable asset in the academic environment (especially towards fellow students). Now, your b-school grades entail 60-80% on what you contribute from your professional work experience across class discussions & group projects. The less work experience you have = the less you will have to contribute = the lower your grades. It is to your personal benefit that you have 4+ years of work experience when attending so that you can be successful in your b-school classes.

Thank you for the detailed feedback! What you have said about waiting another year makes sense to me but I will be 28 by then and I feel like I am already behind. I will make a final decision soon though.
