Hello Everyone, could you please kindly help to evaluate my profile:
- Vietnamese nationality, studied and now working in Tokyo, Japan
- Came to Japan as private student in 2003 but later received scholarship from Ministry of Education of Japan and then full scholarship from Japan Govn
- Majoring Engineering Finance in University. Already hold MBA from Keio University (best BS in Japan)
- In our school, we did not have GPA system but just have A, B, C, D for each subject. And I was told that I can think: A=4, B=3,C=2,D=1 if I want change it to GPA( that is what I did when I applied for Japan Gvn scholarship). And under that assumption my GPA in Uni was 3.8 and in Business School was 3.1.
- Graduated from Uni. as No.1 of candidate list
- Speak VietNamese, English, Japanese, Korean(intermidiate level, but don't use much)
- GMAT & TOEFL: Will take the test this year as I want to apply for the BS from this year.
- Extra curricular: I had many eperiences of this actvities when I was in VietNam such as rasing fund to help senior residents who lost their families in VietNam war, supporting at-risk student,etc..
I was also qualified as a young reporter for a newspaper in VietNam ( and still hold that qualification as it's permanent).But as I came to Japan as a private student, I did not have much time
to participate in extra activites, and just took part in a Japanese traditional drum local team and we performed in many local festivals and events. I also helped a Japanese charity foundation,which gives scholarship to VietNamese students, to translate letters from those students and other communication between the students and the Scholarship foundation.
I would like to apply for Harvard,MIT,Stanford and Columbia
My question is: do they concern why I already hold an MBA but still want to get another one? ( I just simply think that the MBA I did in JP just gave me the Japan business style and it is not enough in this globalization time).Should I tell schools about my extra activities in VietNam too?
Please kindly help to advise me if I can have chance of admission in these Universities. I know it also depends on my GMAT and TOEFL but will do my best. Thank you very much for your time and hope I can hear from you soon.

Regarding a 2nd MBA, programs differ on that point. A few schools won’t consider applicants with prior MBAs at all; however, most will look at the specific circumstances and the case you make for needing the 2nd MBA. I suggest that you check the policy of each school you’re planning to apply to (sometimes it’s on the website, other times you might need to email the admissions office). If they are open to reviewing such applications, then make a strong case for needing the additional MBA.
It would be fine to discuss the Vietnam activities. How you’ll do that will vary depending on the specifics of each application (essays, questions in the online form, etc.).
Yes, your qualification does depend on the GMAT and TOEFL. Also, it depends on the kind of impact you can show. You may be qualified for those very competitive programs; there is much that is impressive and distinctive in your background and experience. That said, I’d need to know yours scores plus more details of your experience to evaluate your qualifications for these programs meaningfully. Also, they will always be reaches.

About my thought of 2nd MBA, from your advice, I guess I can talk about one or two episodes that made me think that the 2nd MBA is necessary for me. I do have such stories and just need to put it in my essay.Thank you very much for pointing out the important point. I was not aware of adding such a thing to my essay.
As for the TOEFL and GMAT, I gave my first try for TOEFL last week and the score was 90, but consider that I still have time to prepare until the submission day, I believe that I can make it to the score of around 110. Math is also my favorite subject and I was very good at math too. I just need to spend time on preparation , and again, consider that I still have time to do, I think that a score of 700 is not that hard for me.
Finally,about my experience, I finished my MBA, that I focused on accounting, in 2011, and started my job at an American company , a world leader in IT, and Japan is its second major market after America.I worked as Tax analyst and Accounting Analyst. I also had an experience of leading a cash payment forecasting team which consists of 11 analysts located in China, Malaysia, Slovakia, and Japan( because the company is outsourcing oversea).The cash payment of the company mounted to 500M USD per month so our forecast did have a very big impact on its business. Besides that I also had many other experiences such as: analyzing the optimal capital structure of the company to support its dividend distribution policy, SOX(Sabanes-Oxley) tester, etc..
After 2 years and 8 months with the company, I felt that there was a necessity to understand the business outside of Japan too, so I made a decision to leave and now I'm working in Asia Pacific HQ of another American company as a Financial analyst. I'm supporting Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Viet Nam, Malaysia, Philippines and Thai Land on Revenue, Cost and Fixed Asset . I also was chosen to attend Worldwide Financial meeting after 6 months joining my current company too. And because in the position of current job, I have had many opportunities to work across the countries of the region, gradually I've felt that if I have more knowledge of business from outside Asia, it would be great advantage for me, considering that I want to go back to Viet Nam one day and there are more and more investors who are changing their way to invest in Asia market.
In 2nd MBA program,I want to strengthen my Finance background, and will mainly focus on Management field, especially Management in international companies.
This is all that I am going to put together in my application. Hope it will help you to give a more specific advice . Again, I very much appreciate it. Thank you very much.
