Mid tier B schools in US

Question

I am a very average student. Even I did not attended English medium high school as our financial condition was not good at all.
I got my Bachelor degree , in Electronics and communication in the year of 2008 and joined a Chinese telecom equipment provider in India.Currently I am based in Malaysia. I sat for Gmat twice and I managed to score only 550.And my toefl score is 85 . My nature of work and the work load do not allow me to do side studies. So I decided to apply for colleges without wasting any time and I am looking for a mid tier college to fulfil my ambition to become a finance grad but I am also aware of that I have to invest a huge amount of money for this ..So I want someone to suggest me some mid tier colleges where I can stand a chance to apply and if I get accepted ,I can get a job with an average salary. I have 6+ years of work experience.

Hi titu2541,

You haven't mentioned much about your profile, your work experience, academics and extracurricular. With 550 GMAT Score, i would suggest you to apply to B-Schools like Vlerick Business School, North Carolina State University, Bradford University of Management and Leeds University Business School etc.

I think you should consider maybe sitting a third time after more study. I would suggest you take a GMAT course if you have not yet, as it can hugely influence the score. Also with a low TOEFL score schools might worry about your ability to communicate in English and participate in the program, so I'd suggesting retaking that as well. Anyhow, you have six months until applications are released, so you should be able to do that.

If attending mid-tier schools is your goal, your current academic profile will make it very difficult for you to get into the consideration set. Assuming that you plan to give this a shot during the next application cycle, I suggest that you invest the next couple months and focus on preparing to retake both the GMAT and the TOEFL. With your work experience to date, this is likely the best time to apply, as you don’t want to push this out any longer.

A slightly different take here. Though I too would suggest trying to improve the score here, but I would also recommend checking out the list  here . Of course, don't just rely on the link. Do your independent research on the schools mentioned here to ascertain whether it fits your requirements/ambitions.
