Washington U.(Olin) has this for an essay(the topic is quite famous in the industry):
"You step into an elevator and find the president of the company that is your number one choice for a summer internship. You have only 2 minutes to convince her that you possess the qualities that will make you the best candidate for the position and that Olin has fully prepared you for that internship. What will you say?" 325 words. FYI, 325 words = 2 minutes of speaking.
My question is should I create the scenario wherein I name the company, the president and job, and address him/her in lieu of my background...or should I just generalize by saying " I approached the president of the company" and talk about my general qualities?
Also,whats the best approach to an elevator speech essay?

i applied to Olin last year.You have to create a scenario and then write the whole scenario.It's just like that you are selling yourself.Hope this helps

There are multiple ways to approach this essay. Personally, I wouldn't spend a lot of time on the scenario itself ("It was dark in the elevator as I stepped and looked up to see the President...")
That will just waste some of your precious 325 words. I would spend a lot more time writing what I would actually say. Things that I would say would focus on:
1) My interest / passion for company
2) My interest / passion for a specific function within the company
3) The strength of fit of my background
a) Professional / personal experiences
b) What I've learned at Olin
4) A closing that allows for follow-up (get a business card, number of a admin, request to talk further about opportunities, etc.)
