Hi Experts,
I am from India and I am quite clueless about the B school admission procedure for US B schools.
From what I have heard , there are three rounds of applications and one is supposed to send one’s GMAT scores , admission essays and recommendation letters to B schools while applying.
I have also heard there is an early application sort of thing as well but I don’t know what it is.
Could you please shed some light on the below?
1. What is early application (application before round 1)? If it exists, what does one have to do apply early? What are the advantages?
2. How does one go about applying for scholarships? What does an international student have to do to get funding (scholarships)?

Amit,
Allright, so for all intents and purposes, there are three rounds for most US B-schools (although some have this early round and some have round 4).
The first round of deadlines is usually at the beginning of October, and this is the round you should aim for if you can make it. Then the next opportunity to apply is Mid-January for most schools. Round 3 is NOT recommended for International applicants.
What you will need to have to apply:
- A GMAT score
- A TOEFL score
- Three years of experience
Then, you will need to fill out an application for each school you choose : with essays, application forms, resume, and letters of recommendation.

Some b-schools do have an early action round and you would apply in that round if you are sure to attend the b-school in case you get an admission offer. In effect, at most b-schools that offer early action round, its a binding offer. You will have to withdraw your application from other b-schools. The advantage is that you have lesser competition in this round and you will know early in the admissions process whether you have an admit or you need to apply in R2 as well. The dis-advantage is the binding offer itself.
To apply early, you have to start earlier

You have to submit a great application to be in consideration for scholarship. There is no separate application. Anyhow a scholarship is not a guaranteed thing...submit your best application and hope that you earn it!
