Black male, 38
National Merit Semifinalist
15 years out of school. 2.0 UGPA from crappy no-name school, 2.5 in major (econ). Grew up very poor, had to work through school, thus no focus.
Spent most of early career in tech (petroleum industry, then to Yahoo).
At Yahoo, I became an internal consultant, which led to a job at Accenture
At Accenture, became a manager in their Management Consulting/Product Lifecycle Management practice, which lead to me founding my own company.
Founded my own (moderately successful) startup, with multiple awards and major partnerships and joint launches with Fortune 50 partners (verifiable with press releases)
When things started to wind down with the startup, got a job at McKinsey at the Engagement Manager level (lateral hires at McKinsey are rare)
My time as an entrepreneur is where I found my life's calling, and I spend a fair amount of time mentoring young entrepreneurs in my local metro. My goal is to do a stint in VC post-MBA, then form my own firm/incubator/accelerator with a special focus on bringing entrepreneurship, mentorship and funding opportunities to young minorities.
Aiming for 700+gmat
Looking at eMBA programs on the west coast (Wharton West, Stanford MSX, Berkeley, UCLA, UMICH West) as my first choices with Kellogg, USC, Booth, NYU, and Columbia as my backups.
I'd like to know how my profile looks and how it will help/hurt my chances in getting into a top program.
