Hi there,
I am a South African and was hoping to get a bit of insight and having read the quals and experience of those applying to business schools on this site has, quite honestly, been pretty intimidating.
I have been offered a permanent position at Deloitte NYC following a secondment there a few months ago, and I really would like to study in the US and build on my Chartered Accountant and CPA qualifications.
Profile:[*]Bachelor of Accounting 2.8 GPA
[*]Bachelor of Accounting Honours 2.5 GPA
[*]3 Years work experience at Deloitte South Africa in public accounting where I managed engagement teams and as a result of my high ratings, was offered a secondment to San Francisco for 4 months.
[*]2 Years work experience at Deloitte South Africa in the Consulting practice as a management consultant specialising in African Market entry and finance transformation.
[*]Another secondment to NYC for 4 months which resulted in this opportunity to move.
[*]I've only ever worked at Deloitte, having particular loyalty to them as they provided a scholarship for me to attend university after interning for them in high school.
[*]I have been involved in a few community services, such as organising outreach programmes for underprivileged orphans in South Africa by renovating their schools, planting of vegetable gardens, and the building of a library for their schools and filling the shelves with donated books. I am also involved with an animal shelter which actively searches for families to adopt previously abused or abandoned pets.
I realise my university transcripts are not strong, however, I will detail in my applications that 2009 and 2010 was a tough year for my family and I was working full-time whilst taking on a full-time degree.
I am aiming for 650-700 in the GMAT (I'd want to take this before heading out to the US) and target schools would be Columbia and NYU (part-time).
I'd appreciate very much any input as I am really nervous about making this move to the US on my aspiration to study at one of the above schools.
