Hi,
I am a recent graduate (2014) of the University of Washington, Seattle with a BS degree in General Biology.
My GPA, which is 3.06, is a bit low due to my lack of passion for science (I figured this out my senior year) and the rigorous pre-dental course route.
After attending a summer business program at the Haas School of Business, I realized that I wanted to make a career shift towards Operations and get an MBA.
Hence, I took the GMAT a month ago and received a score of 720.
Since I don't have work experience in operations, I decided to start from the bottom and take a part time fulfillment role at Amazon.
This is a entry level job but I am hoping it will give me experience and allow me to move up at Amazon.
Assuming all goes to plan and I work for about 4 years, what are my chances of going to a top 20 ranking/top 10 operations program school?
Any sort of feedback or advice would be much appreciated!

It’s way too early to speculate on your qualification for a strong operations MBA four years hence.
What I can say is that your position at Amazon is a positive first step. To be competitive, you must advance to business-scope roles – overall your performance should exceed expectations and the typical path of peers. If this isn’t a natural progression at Amazon, try to find other ways to make it happen, such as taking relevant courses and/or consulting with HR or a mentor on what you need to do to advance to a role closer to ops mgt.
Also, I suggest some steps to counter the low GPA, especially since you have time (a resource to take advantage of!). To demonstrate academic strength, take 2-3 courses in relevant topics at a local community college, university, or reputable online program, and earn A’s. Also, your GMAT is solid, but to further mitigate the low GPA for competitive MBA programs, if possible retake the GMAT and score higher – a strong/high score as opposed to a good/solid score will boost your chances.
