Hariom,

While you are older than the average MBA applicant, you are still well within the range of a traditional MBA in terms of age, skill set, and near/long-term career goals. Many of my classmates were in the program at your age, and the same goes for other top programs.

That being said, moving into banking is a tougher sell at an older age--in fact, many banks and finance companies are advocating for MBA programs for younger students. I would be aware of this when telling your story in the application and developing your long-term career goals. Schools will evaluate what your career goals are and if it makes practical sense at your age--after all, the schools are making an investment in you and they want to see you succeed.

If you have a low GPA, of course it's a hurdle, but this can be overcome with other elements of your application. A high GMAT score, a clear and achievable career vision, and professional record demonstrating excellence can all help to offset the low GPA. Here's an interesting preliminary analysis of low GPAs and low GMATs available on Poets & Quants (https://poetsandquants.com/2015/11/24/data-guru-analysis-the-low-gpa-challenge/). The sample size is small but it should help you see that it's possible to gain entrance with a low GPA, though admittedly somewhat more difficult.

We invite you to check out our blog on Poets & Quants (https://poetsandquants.com/2015/11/05/how-wysegyde-is-hacking-the-price-of-admissions-consulting/), and if you have any questions or would like an initial consultation, please contact us through our website (https://www.wysegyde.com) or by email directly ([email protected]). The initial consultation is free and our services are only $59/hour after that. And since you're looking to apply in the January round, it's important for you to know that our consultants will still be meeting clients' needs with those timelines for the foreseeable future, with services ranging from strategic counseling and school selection to essay review and interview prep.

We look forward to speaking with you soon. And in any case, good luck!

Hi Hariom,

Considering your good number of work experinece, I would definitely recommend you to apply for Executive MBA program. And while applying for Executive MBA program admissions committee gives more weightage to your work experience and extracurricular than your academics. And with 10 years of work experience your Executive MBA networking will be much more valuable then full time MBA networking. As in full time MBA Program the average work experience of candidate is in between 4-5 year.

You may also gauge your chances of getting admission to top business school by trying this amazing tool https://bit.ly/1C9o2Md

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Hariom,
For Europe you are gonna be totally fine with a regular MBA if that's what you prefer. For the US you could theoretically speaking aim for either. But it seems you are only interested in Europe anyhow.

So basically: if you get that 750, you are gonna be golden. And between your top 6 choices you should be able to get an admit or two.

Just make sure those essays are passionate and those goals makes sense.

Good luck on your GMAT!
Best,
Jon
