Hello, hope you all are doing well.
I am planning to apply in round 1 for Fall 2016. Please evaluate my profile.
Below is a snapshot of my profile-
Post Grad : PGDM (equivalent to MBA) from Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode (Top 10 b-school in India) - 2011
GPA - 2.41/4.33 : low GPA attributable to grade drops due to low attendance because of poor health (not sure if it will have positive or negative impact)
Undergrad : B.Tech (Information Technology) from Vellore Institute of Technology (Top 20 Engineering college in India) - 2009
GPA - 8.52/10
GMAT: 770 ( Quant-51 , Verbal-44)
Work-ex (total 4 yrs in FInancial Services industry):
-Currently working as Manager in Market Risk for HSBC - Leading a team of 7 members that drives the inputs to risk calculation models used for market and credit risk calculations globally.
-Previous work-ex of 2 yrs 3 months with CRISIL (India's largest credit rating agency $ a Standard & Poor's company) in the Research and Analytics division.
Certifications:
1. FRM charterholder
2. CFA Level 1 cleared
Extra curriculars:
1. Co-founded a non profit organization that provides healthcare service to underprivileged members of the society.
2. Chairing the committee that is working on revamping the training programs across 2 countries in my current organization.
Career Goals - Post MBA, looking to move into Financial Consulting sector with geographical relocation (preferably to the US).
Planning to apply to:
-Wharton
-Columbia
-NYU Stern
-INSEAD
I am only targeting the top programs. Not sure I will be able to justify the opportunity (as well as actual) costs if I go lower.
Do you think I have a reasonable chance of cracking any of my target schools with my profile?
Your guidance is much appreciated.

Thanks for sharing your profile. You have an interesting background with some positives that will make some of your schools on your list a possibility. You have a strong GPA/GMAT combo and seemingly good work experience in a sector outside of IT which should differentiate you a bit amongst other indian applicants. One thing that will be a question mark is your grad degree. You performed poorly on one end and also this seems like an MBA programs. So AdComm may wonder why does he need another MBA so make sure this aspect of your candidacy is clear.
On paper your scores should be strong enough (grad GPA aside) but top schools like Wharton and even to an extent Columbia are the looking for the truly exceptional candidate so make sure you show them why you are special. NYU should be a competitive match for you but same rules apply let them know why you are special.

If you can help with a couple of follow up questions, it will really help my application strategy.
Indeed, my grad degree is an MBA (just in a different package). Does the fact that it is from one of the very best B schools in India (think Ivy league) help or hinder my application process? i feel that it may make convincing the Adcomm of the need for a 2nd MBA that much harder.
I have a genuine reason for my low grad GPA (health issues). But is this something that I should highlight in my essays/interview? I am not sure but it can be viewed as a negative
