Thanks for the responsiveness. Just to clarify, is the Junior Board a big step down from the "regular" board? This is for the Junior Board.

This is still a board so I wouldn't worry too much about it being called Junior Board. While it isn't as good as a traditional board of directors, it is still a nice activity to have.

I've been asked by a nonprofit to be on the Junior Board. The JB is used to plan fundraisers and help the executive board with their duties. The nonprofit is pretty large and is well known in the nonprofit world. The financial commitment is pretty extensive though ($1000 a year for 5 years). Is this normal? Do you think this is prestigious or would just doing ad hoc projects for the nonprofit show enough community engagement? I will be reapplying to some schools and one of the adcom members said i need more leadership in the community. Would being a member of the JR Board be better than just doing projects for them? How much better?

Do it! It sounds awesome. and looks great on paper! (and it shouldnt stop you from doing other things too)
