I am looking to apply to EMBA programs in Europe for Fall 2016 entry. My first preference is the INSEAD GEMBA, and will be looking for admin consultants that have specific experience with applications for this program.
Follow up EMBA preferences are Kellogg-WHU, IE Business School, TRIUM - although I may be too young for TRIUM, or all the aforementioned for that matter.
Please provide feedback on my profile, and if you have experience with EMBA apps to above schools, please leave a note. Key question is - does Director level role, overall career trajectory, and international experience make up for the academics, and shorter time in management experience?
STRATEGIC ACCOUNT DIRECTOR - 1 year in role (will be 2 years by entry), 5 direct reports - oversee a $400M+ revenue account for a global Fortune 500 company. Currently based in US. Global role, which involves business in North America, and EMEA. Candidate more senior role within 5 years if I can fill the MBA gap.
AGE: 31 (will be 32 at entry) Australian, Male
EXPERIENCE: 7.5Y, 1Y Management (2Y at Entry) + previous leadership style roles without direct reports. 5 promotions, increasing levels of responsibility, all within same industry (Between 2 companies).
GMAT: 650, IR:7, Q:38 V:41, AWA 5.5GPA: 3 (trending upwards) - Mid-tier Australian University - worked part-time 20 hours per week while at University. Business Icon competition winner - beat out 100+ others in a business competition styled similar to ‘The Apprentice’.
I’ve travelled to 45 countries, lived in 5, worked in 3 (Australia, Ireland, USA). I rode a motorbike 35,000km through every mainland country in Europe, and trained in martial arts in China. I think this sufficiently ticks the criteria for INSEAD ‘International Outlook’.
Company sponsorship - Going to INSEAD or another European school would coincide with the company transferring me to the Netherlands in Q3, 2016. Financially, I can self-fund through a combination of savings and salary sacrifice, with a proportion of financial company sponsorship - does this help?
Goal: Post-EMBA move into a VP level role within my division, or lead an acquisition to take us into a new geographical market (our industry is still quite fragmented). Longer term goal - higher level leadership role, or look at a MBI to another company within same Industry. Insead is of particular interest as they have electives etc. that cater to this goal. I see the EMBA as helping me build a network and more importantly, a profile, that will support these ambitions.
I can potential transfer to the Netherlands, work for a year and then apply when I am 33, and have 3 years of experience at Director level under my belt. Am I trying too early? I would prefer to get it done, as am planning to start a family, and would like to get EMBA out of the way first, if possible - so I can focus on that, and career.
