Hi,

Your profile is really good. Your work experience, extracurricular and GMAT Score are good to apply for top 20-25 B-Schools. You can also apply for scholarships to cover your tuition fees etc. Since R1 of most of the B-Schools are already over/about to over, I would suggest you to start asap for your B-School applications without any further delay.

You may also gauge your chances of getting admission to top business school by trying this amazing tool https://bit.ly/1C9o2Md

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Hi Jon, Scott,
Thanks for your posts. Let me try and answer a few questions you have posted.
Where do you work?
My startup is based out of Pune in India.

What do you do?
I am the business co-founder. For a startup with a small team-size, there are a ton of things one ends up doing as a founding member. So my startup works in the mobile internet space. Here are a few of the things I am responsible for: Conceptualizing new projects and features based on market feedback, managing ongoing projects till completion, developing new business opportunities, nurturing existing alliances for growth, formulating operating budgets, increasing user retention, maximizing average revenue per user and designing user interfaces.

How quickly have you advanced?
So within 3 months I went from being a sales trainee fresh out of college to being the area manager for south India and had to set up a sales and business dev base in Bangalore city for the organization. For about 9months after this I was raising capital for my tech venture and pumped in all my savings to get started. We broke even in the second year of operations. Last year (4th year) we closed in on approximately USD 200K revenue. During this period we've reached out to over 5million customers. In the current year we are going to focus on actively monetizing our users.

Do you have any leadership?
Well the largest team I have lead was a boy scout troop of 40 people (voluntary community service for 4 years). But otherwise I've always lead teams of 3-5 people throughout my career.

What are your great achievements?
I guess going from bootstrapping to turning the organization profitable and reaching out to 5million users by leading a small team of 5 people.

Do you have notable community service or extra curriculars?
Community service is as explained above. Extra curricular activities were during college. Elected posts in student body organizations - Vice Chairperson and Core Committee member. Since I have taken up intense roles post college, I haven't had the opportunity to indulge in too many non-work related activities.

Which school did you graduate from?
I graduated with a Bacherlor's of Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Pune in India.

What was your GPA?
Horrible! So technically the university doesn't serve a GPA, it serves a class. So considering a cumulative score for 4 years, my class stands as a Higher Second Class (ie 2 classes below the topmost class)

How old are you though?
30 at matriculation. Feels old yeah!

My biggest question is about the size and scope of the tech venture. Revenue, employees?
The technology venture is in the mobile internet space targeted at Indian audiences living in tier-2,3 cities. Last year revenue closed at USD 200K. Team size is 5.

Hi Neha,
Thanks for writing in. I guess I tried out your tool long back and I had a word with Krishna from your team back then. Not sure if I got the name right, please bear with me since its been long. Anyway, I really appreciate all advise you and your team has extended.

Thanks,
Ajit

Dear Ajit,
Good to hear from you! So the KEY to your application is to sell your business. I mean pitch is amazingly well to the Adcom so that they will BELIEVE in it. You are off to a good start so far, and if you can tell a good story then well... :)

I think you can apply to a selection of schools in the 15-30 range. And that should be about your sweet spot for US schools.

I hope this helps, and if you have any other questions, do not hesitate,
Best,
Jon
