Dentist wants to be an MBA

Hi!
My Acads:
10th : 85%
12th: 81%
Graduation(Bachelors in Dental Surgery) - 61%
Masters (Masters in dental Surgery- Pediatrics) - 59.6%

I am Pediatric Dentist by qualification and running my Clinic Since five years.
I am successfully running two clinics in two different cities in India and also have almost two years of experience as Senior Lecturer at a Dental COllege.

As Senior lecturer I was taking care of entire pediatric department and had a staff of 57 people reporting to me.
Under my leadership we had adopted 30 schools and owned the dental health of 11000 underprivileged students in those schools.

I have 7 International and 1 National publication in various dental journals.

I am also attached to an NGO from past 3 Years and taking care of health and dental issues of underprivileged kids and also educating the community about the same.

Why MBA?

I have experience in running two clinics and have keen interest in providing complete oral care to underprivileged children.
I want to open a not-for-profit dental clinic chain for the same reason and I hope MBA will widen my thinking and help me improve my network to help me execute my Dream Project.

I am eyeing Low-cost Effective MBA program. Kindly suggest me colleges and competent GMAT score for the same.

I have found Rotman, Sauders, UNSW and Melbourne Business School (More inclined to do my MBA from AUstralia/ Canada) attractive.

Thanks for sharing your background. It sounds like you're targeting a future in social enterprise, so I'd be sure to incorporate that narrative in your applications and target schools with a strong social enterprise footprint. GMATs for Schools like Rotman, Sauders, and UNSW come in at 670-80 while Melbourne is a bit higher - 680-700 for your applicant pool. I think you have a lot of strengths in your profile and they should resonate with the programs you're targeting. You didn't mention your age, but if you happen tone older than the median for a given school, be sure to justify why now is the best time for your MBA. Hope this information helps. Well i do hve some questions tat m not quite sure about
1) should i opt for a 1 yr mba or 2 year mba
2) wic mba ranking site to follow
3) wat critieria shd i keep in mind before applyin for tat particular school (as I m completely shifting my career from dentistry to management )
4) i am more interested in Australia but all
Major mba schools in Australia offer only one year With no summer internship..for example melbourne business school, macquerie business school and UNSW..
5) In canada, most schools r offering 16 mnths mba..so r they similar to 2 yr mba or any disadvantages..
6) Hows mba at QUT, Brisbane..coz ranking of australian and canadian universities r pretty ambiguous..

To answer your questions:

1) should i opt for a 1 yr mba or 2 year mba --> 2 years is my advice - you get the most out of this experience
2) wic mba ranking site to follow --> Since you're looking at starting your own non-profit, I would look at programs that have a leading specialty in this area as opposed to general rankings

Major mba schools in Australia offer only one year With no summer internship..for example melbourne business school, macquerie business school and UNSW.. --> The schools you mention make sense; how many you apply to depends on your risk tolerance. Given your age, I would apply to as many as you can this round.
5) In canada, most schools r offering 16 mnths mba..so r they similar to 2 yr mba or any disadvantages.. --> They should be fairly similar. An internship won't help you given your goals unless you think you need experience working at a non-profit before you open one up (which isn't a bad idea). In which case a 2yr program is the way to go.
6) Hows mba at QUT, Brisbane..coz ranking of australian and canadian universities r pretty ambiguous.. --> Those schools are decent, but I like the programs you listed above a bit better for you

Hello..well i got 570 score on gmat V43, V26..can i apply to canadian univ with this score..mostly interested in sauders, mcgill and hec montreal..wat would u suggest ??

Hi there,

Thanks for the update. Unfortunately a 570 is going to be on the low end of all of those schools which drastically limits your chances. I would recommend giving the test another shot after some further preparation (assuming you only took the test once). This will at least show the AdComm you gave it your best chance to eclipse the 600-640 mark.
