Score wise I think you are in good shape and have a strong academic background so I think you will be competitive on paper. Most MS in Finance programs will not scrutinize your career story as much MBA programs but you should really make sure you need another degree here. Admissions might wonder why you need this degree and if you already have the requisite skills and should be able to secure a job in the industry at this point especially for the more higher ranked programs.

Thanks for your kind words. I have secured a job in the Industry but in India very less jobs are relevant. I need an opportunity to drive my career in right direction and I think MS Finance being a very specialized course would help me fulfilling my ambitions and would help me getting good roles in the industry. Correct me and guide me if I am wrong.

I think there is some truth in that, I would just make sure you communicate your desire to gain specialized finance education with regards to the US system to help you reach your career goal of breaking into the US finance industry. Just know they may have questions about your need for another degree so just have your narrative ready for the application process

Can you please suggest me top colleges where I can secure admission based on my profile. Also, please let me know will it be difficult to secure a good job from campus based on my profile?

Good advice above,
But let me disagree on one point, getting a 770 won't help you and would likely not be the best use of your time. If you are gonna be able to wipe out that GPA it will be because you have a fantastic STORY!

I think a much better use of your time would be to drill on those schools and essays.

and find some great story to explain your low GPA

I think you are mistaken here. I have not asked anything about getting 770 marks and also in my post there is no mention of low GPA.

I have given GRE and scored 315, Quant-165 and verbal-150 and AWA-4.

My basic profile is I have done Civil Engineering from Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh with CGPA of 8.76/10. Then, worked in Reliance Infrastructure for 2.5 Yrs in Project management profile. After that I did an MBA in Finance from SIBM (Symbiosis International University), with a CGPA of 3.168/4. I have done 4 Internships during B.E and 1 during the MBA. I have organized PECFest, an annual fest during my B.E. I have participated in Maths Olympiad and entrepreneurship event of IIM Bangalore. I have been member of Investment club in SIBM. Also I have some decent extra curricular.

I have also cleared CFA level-1. Currently I am working in Copal Amba (A Moody's Analytics Company) in index risk and portfolio solutions domain of sell side investment research. I have been working in Copal Amba since last 5 months.

I am really interested in MS finance and I want to know about my chances for getting into top colleges (Preferably top 20) for MS in Finance as per my profile. Kindly do not hesitate in asking any questions for evaluating my profile.

Kindly accept my gratitude in anticipation. :)

HI Atul,

my concern is that you have already done an MBA with specialization. In my opinion you need to spend some more time at work to really know whether you need another degree to retool yourself. Five months into a job is not sufficient time to know that.

Hi Namita,

Thanks for such valuable inputs. I am going to put those suggestions into practice. Can you help me with how much time at work would be ideal for making my profile stronger and which all top colleges I can get in with my profile. Kindly also, let me know will I have to go for a retake of GRE if I am not getting admission in top 20 Colleges?

Please accept my gratitude for helping me out :)

Regards
Atul
